A TRIP TO THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM: Keith Haring: 1978-1982

The Brooklyn Museum is currently having an exhibition called Keith Haring: 1978-1982, which explores the early career of the late great artist. It will be there until July 8th, 2012, so I suggest you go check it out! Click the following link for more information: Keith Haring Exhibit.
Nicholas kirkwood previously payed homage to the artist with these printed pumps. I thought a trip to the museum to see this exhibition would be the perfect time to bring them out!
I decided to re-visit my childhood and my beloved crayon box, with an artist primary color palette using Red, Yellow & Blue. I paired the pumps with a red pair of skinny jeans from Victoria Beckham denim, a yellow sweater from Altuzaraa, and a blue plexiglass clutch from Jimmy Choo. The white biker jacket by Acne tones down the bold hues. A statement necklace by Pamela Love and ring by Bjules showcase my love and appreciation for lines, such as the techniques used in Haring’s works. I chose a pair of round sunglasses by The Row, similar to the circular frames Haring used to wear. A classic red lip by Chanel, and for that playful aspect, i’d get a  keith haring printed manicure to complete the look!
I love art!

FEATURED ITEM: Giuseppe Zanotti x Kanye West Sandals

Kanye West never released his Pastelle line, but he did debut his women’s wear collection DW (for his mother Donda West) on October 1st 2011. During his runway show, these shoes made their first appearance. They are beautifully crafted, but come with a hefty price tag of about $5,835. If you have that kind of money to spend, then congrats, but since i can’t afford them I’ll just imagine what I would wear them with if I owned them lol.
I found this Alexander McQueen Clutch that goes perfectly with the shoes. The sheer embellished blouse is by True Decadence. Together these pieces are glamorous and sexy but I also like to incorporate edgy elements into my looks. The skull head on the clutch is a great subtle detail but i want more! Since the blouse is sheer, I layered it over a leather bustier from Marc by Marc Jacobs. I wanted to infuse some humor into the look, and not make it too serious, so I choose these Givenchy Panther Print Trousers. The collar of the blouse is already accessorized with embellishments so a necklace isn’t necessary. Instead I choose rings by Lanvin & Loree Rodkin, and earrings by Lulu Frost.
For makeup, I would go with a smokey eye using the shadows pictured, winged liquid or gel eyeliner and a sheer subtle orange gloss. A vampy nail color by Chanel completes the look.

OBSESSION: GIVENCHY + ISABEL MARANT

I am OBSESSED with this ‘Iris print’ t-shirt from Givenchy’s Resort 2012 Collection. It has a gorgeous multi-colored print of orchids & palm leaves with stud & chain elements that edge it up a bit. It’s semi sheer and has a slightly oversized fit making it easy & comfortable to wear.Another item I am OBSESSED with is the Isabel Marant Willow High-Top Sneakers. These aren’t your average sneaker. They have a hidden wedge heel inside! This allows for you to still pull off that casual look you may want while still giving you the height to appear longer, leaner and sexier! The sneakers come in a several colorways but this neutral colored pair can work well with a lot of things. I wanted to put a look together using both of these items. I chose a pair of Balmain leather trousers to edge up the outfit even more and play off of the leather detailing on the sneakers. The emerald green studded clutch by Kate spade adds a little glitz & glamour. (There is a chain strap inside which converts this clutch into a bag.) A Pair of vintage chanel earrings in cream, black & gold complement the color palette, and the mawi rose gold necklace is the perfect statement piece to complete the look.Instead of going for a classic red lip, I thought why not pull another color off of the shirt and go for orange instead. Orange lipstick is a very wearable color contrary to what some may think. Just pick a shade that complements your skin tone, and it can add just another unexpected, subtle detail to your look! Since I opted for the orange lip, I choose to use the red on my nails instead.Viola! =D

I am a HUGE fan of what Lanvin menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver does with their sneakers. I love the silhouettes and i wish they would use some of the same ones from the men’s collection for their women’s sneaker collections. *HINT HINT*
I love the oily finish on these goat leather Lanvin sneakers. It adds texture and shine. The striped teal & taupe shoelaces were also a great addition. They remind me of laces used in hiking boots, which make them an interesting choice.
I paired the sneakers with a taupe John Varvatos button-up shirt for the perfect match. To add a little color to the mix I didn’t want 2 go with an obvious teal sweater, instead i opted for a color that was still complimentary such as this burgundy cashmere Vince sweater. A pea-coat from All Saints keeps this look classic and chic, combined with a pair of black slightly faded jeans to play off the finish on the sneakers. A gold Nixon watch keeps the overall look luxurious.
SNEAKERS: Lanvin - Oily Goat High $734
WATCH: Nixon $350
SWEATER: Vince - Cashmere V-neck sweater $315
COAT: All Saints - Linen Revenge Pea Coat $250
BUTTON UP SHIRT: John Varvatos $220
JEANS:  All Saints - Exhaust Iggy Jeans $120

Here is the latest project that I styled & conceptualized inspired by Kanye West’s POWER. I teamed up with Director/Editor Dan Moraru to execute my vision.

The concept revolves around the notion that a man of multiple facets must represent himself in various ways in order to carry out his responsibilities ie. A man of much Power must wear many hats.

The 7 outfit changes are meant to represent the 7 days of the week and the drastic changes that each day may bring to a man of high regard and stature. Most people of power are capable of adapting to any situation they are placed in. Here i wanted to showcase that through the application of fashion, with looks ranging from grunge, preppy, urban and more.

I pulled from amazing high-end luxury brands like Lanvin, Balenciaga & Dior & Mixed it up with staple lower priced brands such as Uniqlo, H&M, & Zara. Some other brands/places I pulled from for this shoot were: Supra, Urban Outfitters, The gap, Sperry Top-Sider, Aldo, Azad Watches, New-Era, Kenneth Cole, Club Monaco, Theory, & Vince.

If you have any questions about what brand a particular item is, or any other inquires feel free to contact me at nicole@nicoleporee-zayas.com

Dsquared dropped these Calf & Nylon “Hiking style boots”, which you clearly shouldn’t hike in lol…but I don’t think practicality should be your main concern when you’re having fun with fashion. These are great for the Fall/Winter. I love the colorway and they have a rugged look to them. I paired them with a pair of leather shorts, which I think are a good addition to your wardrobe this season. Don’t be afraid to wear shorts during colder days. Just like you can wear skirts all year round you can wear shorts all year round, just be sure to layer up with a pair of thick tights such as the cream ones I have pictured here. A scarf and hat add extra warmth. Another ridiculous concept that I’ve heard…”Sunglasses are only appropriate for the summer.” There is sun in the winter time isn’t there?!?! Don’t be afraid 2 accessorize with a pair of shades to complete your look.
SHOES: Dsquared FW2010 Calf & Nylon Boots $1000

Nicholas Kirkwood is one of my favorite shoe designers, and Rodarte is one of my favorite brands, therefore I was ECSTATIC about this collaboration! There are so many amazing details on this shoe, that you can use as inspiration to build an outfit around. Beautiful candle wax like detailing on the heel, a gorgeous colorway that you can pull multiple shades from, including: Deep Red, Lilac, Cream, Off White, Black & Periwinkle. This shoe also features a crackle looking effect on the outsole, a crocodile print back, and more!
*Don’t be afraid to introduce another complimentary color into the mix, that’s not featured on the shoe, such as the aqua Chanel nail polish.
This is just ONE, of MANY ways to wear these beautiful shoes.
